Peppa Pig Revisited: More Visual Attractions

In my last post, I talked about the visual impact of Peppa Pig, using one episode as an example. In fact, as I mentioned there, visual and verbal messages are a staple of the show. Here are some more examples that might inspire the beginning animator.

Foggy Day

I will begin with an episode about a foggy day and what to do in one. The usage of dull colour works to emphasize the fog. A largely colorful setting is interrupted by a grey amount of fog, the focal point of the episode and a departure from the usual colorful themes. This makes the colors look a bit less colorful, creating a true foggy day setting, as the title promises.

The Baby Piggy

We already talked about Peppa, George and Rebecca, and Chloe is pretty much the same as the former two, but the next example uses new characters utilizing colour to create a visual example: orange and blue, white and pink, B&W and purple.

Now what could be said about these three characters we have introduced is that, because they make good use of fitting colors, they are very c0lorful and balanced images. That is important because they were made to be seen. What is interesting is that the limited way in which they use colour is intended to make the viewer shift their eyes from the pigs to the new characters, with the help of a narrator.
Edmond Elephant's Birthday
This example is using a more blendy colour scheme as the scene takes place indoors. The scene is associated with winning, something many people are happy about. The highly saturated colours that are associated with the characters are placed over a sultry-schemed room making them calm, emphasizing the party theme. Meanwhile, in an effort to draw the viewers attention, the giant teddy is being held by Edmond Elephant, making him the winner and focal point of the scene. This adds some excitement to the scene, which might otherwise become too uninteresting.
Thus wraps up my Peppa Pig unit, which explores complementary colors and mixing scenarios with objects.
